Premier SOR Mahumapelo has on behalf of the North West Provincial Government expressed condolences to the Mogale family in Deelpan for the loss of six family members as a result of fire that burned down their 4-roomed shack.
It is reported that at about 3h00 this morning the shack caught fire and claimed the lives of six family members.
Five other family members survived and two of them were admitted at Gelukspan Hospital, while three survived uninjured.
According to Councillor Moreetsi Ntjapodi of ward 1 in Deelpan, those that lost their lives include two young adults and four children.
“Our thoughts are with the Mogale family during this difficult time. May they be comforted as they come to terms with this tragic loss,” said Mahumapelo.
Mahumapelo confirmed that the Provincial Disaster Management Teams from Local Government and Human Settlements Department and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality visited the scene to make an assessment in order to intervene as the fire has completely destroyed the shack and its contents.
Police say investigations are underway to determine the cause of fire.
Leader of Government Business, MEC Manketsi Tlhape and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Mayor Mr Justice Makolomakwe were expected to visit the family this afternoon.
