Northern Cape Sports hands over sport equipment to schools, 18 Oct

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the Department of Education and the Dr Molefi Olifant Institute of Leadership (OIL) have entered into a partnership to develop and promote mass participation of school sport at the identified schools in the Province.

However in order to ensure that the correct knowledge and skills is transferred to the learners in their respective codes, the educators at the identified schools who will be responsible for the co-ordination of sport  had to successfully complete a course on capacity building for sport in our schools.

The sporting codes in which the capacity building were focused around and who will be receiving equipment are

  • Volleyball,
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Athletics

The Dr Molefi OLifant Institute of Leadership has funded the capacity building course and donated the sporting equipment for 45 schools . The total value including the capacity building and sport equipment is valued at R 175 000 per school , meaning that they contributed 7.9 million towards school sport as part of government venture to equal the playing fields in terms of equipment and administrative skills of the educators.

The official handover of the equipment will be done by the MEC for Sport , Arts and Culture Ms Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba , the MEC for Education Ms Martha Bartlett and representatives from the  Dr Molefi Olifant Institute of Leadership (OIL) at the

Lady Oppeniemer Hall (Mc Gregor Museum) – opposite the Half Way House @ 15h00 on Tuesday 18 October 2016-10-14.
