On Tuesday, 2 August 2016, the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Sussana Dantjie welcomed Hon. Virginia Galebekwe Tlhapi from the African National Congress who was Sworn-in as Member of the Provincial Legislature in the vacant seat left by the late MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu.
Schedule Act 73 of 1988 schedule 1a Section 23(1)(b) states that in the event of a vacancy in the legislature to which this schedule applies, the party which the vacating member represented must fill the vacancy by nominating a person.
In accordance with Section 107 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Tlhapi took an oath and affirmed faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution before she could begin to perform her duties in the Legislature.
Hon. Tlhapi is the Acting Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the North West Province; former Regional Executive Committee Member of ANCYL – Bojanala Region; ; former Member of the Mayoral Committee on Local Economic Development at Bojanala District Municipality.
Hon. Dantjie welcomed Hon. Tlhapi and said she hopes that her contribution will enhance the good work that the Legislature has been doing to improve the lives of the Bokone Bophirima province.
