North West Legislature Committee on Education is saddened by horrific incident of a nine year old
Yesterday, 17 February 2016, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs, led by Hon. Boitumelo Moiloa paid respect to the family of a nine year old boy (9) who was accidentally hit by an oncoming car, after boarding off a scholar transport.
Ofentse Ben Leru, who was a Grade 3 learner at the Skietpan Primary School, was involved in a horrible accident on Monday, 15 February 2016, that had his head severed and laid some distance from his body.
He was the first born of Ms. Jortia Leru and Mr. Jonas Tlhomedi who were short of words and still in shock of the horrific incident. The Chairperson of committee, Hon. Moiloa responded swiftly to the incident and paid a visit to the family of bereaved.
“we are in shock and saddened to hear about your loss, nobody deserves to go through such distress, I once lost a daughter, and definitely know the pain it comes with losing a loved one,”
“A parent should never go through the pain of losing a child,” said Hon. Moiloa
She made a request to Mr. H. Mutara, the District Director of the Department of Education at Maquassi Hills Local Municipalty, to assist the family with the necessary arrangements needed for the funeral and to ensure that the Department of Social Development provides counselling for the family.
Mr. Mutara assured the Chairperson that arrangements had already taken place for counselling learners who were traumatised after witnessing the incident, and subsequent counselling will be arranged for the parents of the bereaved.
Hon. Moiloa, also donated money to the family to assist them with transport costs. The family indicated that the burial will take place at Kraaipan where the family originates from.
The committee assured the family of overseeing the necessary assistance requested from the District Department of Education in providing for funeral arrangements.
