North West Health to hold TB Summit in a mining town, Rustenburg

The North West Department of Health will hold a two day Tuberculosis (TB) Summit from 15-16 November 2018. The summit will be held at Orion Safari Lodge, Rustenburg.

The aim of the summit is to engage stakeholders and role players like mines on how to curb and reduce the scourge of TB in the Province.

The National TB Programme Strategic Plan (2017-2021) aims to reduce TB mortality and incidence by 43% and 26% respectively. A total of 454 00 people are diagnosed with TB in South Africa and 300 000 people are initiated on treatment.

In 2017 North West has diagnosed 16 541 cases with susceptible TB. A total of 5 181 cases were recorded in Bojanala District of which 2414 cases were in the mining town of Rustenburg. 

As a build up to the TB Summit, MEC Dr.  Magome Masike will meet with the community of Rustenburg at Freedom Park Phase 2 Sport ground at 12h00.

Members of the media are invited to attend the summit scheduled to start at 09h00 in Rustenburg (Orion Safari Lodge).
