North West on consultative meeting with House of Traditional Leaders

North West EXCO touches base with Traditional Leaders

The North West Executive Council embarked on a successful consultative meeting with the House of Traditional Leaders on Monday 18 April 2016 ahead of the Provincial Budget votes of all provincial departments in the province.

Premier SOR Mahumapelo explained that the purpose of the session was to present the 2016 State of the Province Address (SoPA) action plan to the House of Traditional Leaders which contains SoPA pronouncements and how they are being implemented.

Mahumapelo further asserted that the session sought to afford traditional leaders an opportunity to advise the Provincial Government on issues that need to be considered in the plans of the departments since the traditional leaders are rooted in the communities and fully understand the urgent challenges that need government intervention.

Kgosi Shadrack Zibi, who is the Provincial Chairperson of the North West House of Traditional Leaders, said that they appreciate efforts of the provincial government in engaging the traditional leadership.

“We appreciate your efforts in soliciting our views on the development needs of our communities and we hope that the issues we raised here today will find expression in the provincial government’s programme of action.” Said Zibi.

The traditional leaders used the consultative session to raise issues such as:

  • Delivery of quality services, they called on government to improve on the quality of roads that are being provided.
  • They requested government to resuscitate the Education Development Service Centres and utilise them to host school camps.
  • They also applauded the provincial government for the services that are being rolled out in rural areas and urged that government should keep on delivering.

“Part of the reason for inviting you today is that we should listen to you and implement, that is why we invited Heads of Department to this session as well” Mahumapelo told the traditional leader.

He further announced the establishment of VTSD focus groups whose responsibility will be to drive the VTSD action plans.

Mahumapelo also used the session to introduce the recently appointed Heads of Department to the traditional leaders.

The appointed HODs are as follows:

1.Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs Department: Ms Nono Bapela
2.Local Government & Human Settlements Department: Mr Ephraim Motoko
3.Tourism Department: Advocate Neo Sephoti
