North West Education registers good start of 2016 academic year

As schools reopened on Wednesday 13 January 2016, teaching and learning started well in most schools of the North West with no major concerns.

To monitor the first week of schooling,  a delegation of senior management of the department led by MEC Wendy Matsemela visited all schools to confirm that teaching and learning takes place and on time.

On the first day of reopening, MEC Wendy Matsemela paid a visit to five schools in Rustenburg (Manape Secondary, Boitekong Secondary, Tsitsing Primary, Boikagong Primary and Paardekraal Primary Schools) followed by Fumane Secondary as well as Klipgat Secondary schools on the second day and was pleased with schools implementing a national call on the triple T effect (Teacher, Textbook, Time) and that learners were ready for the 2016 academic year.

Challenges such as late registration due to the rising number of informal settlements in townships were taken into consideration and a remedial action will be applied to curb overcrowding in classrooms and to maintain a healthy teacher-learner ratio.

School Governing Body and parental involvement was visible in various schools. MEC Matsemela commended the community for the support they gave to the different schools in the province. “I am humbled to see parents participating in the education of their children at some schools I visited, and found parents assisting school management. I am also appealing to other communities in doing the same.

Matsemela further pleaded with communities to put an end to school interruptions in 2016 so that learners can be at school and pride the province with improved year end results.
