Media statement by Gauteng Provincial Legislature Speaker, Hon. LH Mekgwe introducing newly appointed executive management
Ladies and gentlemen of the media,
I have no doubt that you are aware of the hard work we have engaged in the previous months as Gauteng Provincial Legislature, that in keeping with our institutional commitment to run the legislature within and guided by high standards of good governance.
We had in the interest of continuity and change, at the end of employment contracts of most senior managers of the institution embarked on the massive drive to recruit suitable individuals that will keep GPL a 21 century institution that it is.
Accordingly, we have in the recent past announced the success of our recruitment drive, by announcing our new Legislature Secretary, the CFO and ED for Leadership and Governance, as I committed then, that I will at an appropriate time announce further appointments
I would like to take this opportunity to announce our latest appointments, that as of the 1st September 2016, we were joined by Executive Director: Core Business Mr. Thamsanqa Lucky Makamba, Executive Director: Corporate Support Services Ms. Molemoeng Bokgwathile, the Legislature Services Board Secretary (LSB) Ms. Shambala Ntanjana, HR business partner, Mr. Oliver Pillay, Office Manager Corporate Support Services; Ms. Ursula Lottering and Director Oversight and Strategic Liaison; Mr. Khaled Khota.
Let me also take the pleasure of confirming further appointment of Directors and Managers across the institution, who will start work with the GPL on later dates; with these I choose not to mention their names as we will have the opportunity to put names to faces of individuals as they start work with GPL.
I have earlier spoken about continuity and change, this because we have deliberately opted to avoid plummeting the pace of service delivery by re-appointing some senior managers who applied and went through proper processes, but again allowing the institution to new ideas and breath, this to ensure a blend towards institutional growth.
Ladies and Gentlemen it is without doubt that in the midst of change GPL has undergone as a result of the end of contract of our senior managers, the institution was expected to ordinarily suffer weaknesses, but because of those in our staff who were called to hold the fort, the institution did well and sustained its excellent status.
This can be demonstrated to by GPL sustaining its clean audit status and seamless functionality of the institution at all levels. For this I wish to express my gratitude to all staff members who held the fort by all heartedly serving when they were called upon to act in various positions in the absence of the incumbents.
To all of you, I would like to sincerely thank you and though we know that you are thanked less but over worked, your commitment to serve the people of Gauteng is unquestionable nor unshakable; Thank you Siyabonga.
Indeed the work we have done in pursuit of the vision and principles of good governance has at all times been based on the age-old values of Good Governance, of selflessness, sacrifice and service in a manner that ensures that the interests of the people take precedence over our desires as individuals.
I truly believe that Gauteng Provincial Legislature in which I have a privilege to serve have acted and worked in the true spirit of these important values.
This is, of course not the occasion to record personal victories but an achievement of GPL that will stand the test of time, as we forge ahead to be the voice of the people of Gauteng
Despite the advances we will score as results of these appointments, I would be the first to say that even as we ensure administrative stability and ability of the GPL, the fruits of these positive results depend fully on the commitment to serve of this newly reconfigured management team
Importantly, this team has an obligation to ensure that Good Governance becomes a permanent feature of Gauteng Provincial Legislature. This is one of the cornerstones of our democracy, which the Gauteng Provincial Legislature stands for and should continuously and consistently strive to protect and never to compromise.
I am convinced that the new management team will better the work done by the then team, to whom we are grateful for having laid the strong foundation this team will continue on.
I thank all of you!
