The Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Pauline Williams will be hosting 200 young people from across the Province for a Provincial Youth Road Safety Summit this weekend.
The summit is a partnership between the National Department of Transport and the Province in taking bold steps to reduce road carnage affecting the youth in the country.
Unfolding under the theme #BEINGSAFEISCOOL, the summit comes as a result of the 2015 Road Safety Summit held in Cape Town as one of the strategic interventions aimed at combating road carnage.
The aim of the upcoming youth engagements is to have the youth organised and robustly participating as an integral part of the Road Safety programmes of the department going forward and serve to complement the existing efforts in place to curb road carnage among the young people in the country.
The summit will give a voice to young people on road safety issues and award them an opportunity to contribute to a shift in attitudes and behaviour towards road safety among their peers.
Provincial Youth Road Safety Summit will also see 40 selected of the young people from the 200 delegation join the National Youth Road Safety Summit in June which will be led by Minister Dipuo Peters and her Deputy Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga.
