Science and Technology launches National Science Week at University of Western Cape, 6 Aug

National Science Week 2016, more wonder, more excitement

The Department of Science and Technology will launch National Science Week (NSW) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) tomorrow, 6 August, bringing you more fun, more excitement, more science and more wonder.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will launch the event, accompanied by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, UWC Rector Prof. Tyrone Pretorius and Western Cape Education MEC Ms DebbieSchäfer.

The event will be jam-packed with exciting science talks, workshops and exhibitions to show that science is fun too. Over 3 000 learners from across the Western Cape are expected to attend; they will beentertained by flash mobs, dancers, acrobats and stage plays on science. Various science exhibitions will also be on display to put into practice what is taught in the classroom.

The NSW is one of the Department of Science and Technology's initiatives to celebrate and raise awareness ofthe role of science in society. From 6 to 13 August, scientists will be educating the public about science, technology and innovation, and, most importantly,shed more light about this year's theme: "Science for Sustainable Development and Improved Quality of Life".
