MEC Reginah Mhaule meets learners of Mkhondo Local Municipality, 26 Aug

The MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule will on 26 August 2016, 11H00, address about 2 800 Learners of Mkhondo Local Municipality. The meeting will take place at Izimbali Boarding School and part of the address will be to review the 2015 grade 12 results of the Local municipality.

The MEC will also use the occasion to urge the grade 12 class of 2016 to study hard in order to improve on last year’s pass percentage and thus contribute to the overall improvement of the Province.

Mkhondo Local Municipality is one of the poor performing municipalities with 66.9% in the 2015 Grade 12 results. The Provincial target for 2016 is to improve the grade 12 results by 10%, from 78.6% in 2015 to 88.6% and achieving this percentage requires that all the school improve in their performance.

The Department has also introduced the following intervention programmes for the underperforming schools;

  • The weekly radio lessons which feature on Ikwekwezi and Ligwalagwala FM from Tuesday to Thursday at 17H30
  • The weekly radio lessons on the Mpumalanga Community Radio Stations, Monday to Thursday at 14H30
  • The winter and spring classes

The MEC also calls upon all the schools to also convene extra classes (Morning, Afternoon and Saturday classes) to assist learners who may be experiencing challenges during their studies.
