Minister Senzeni Zokwana attends SADC Ministerial Workshop on food security and poverty eradication, 16 May

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr Senzeni Zokwana will be visiting Gaborone, Botswana on Monday the 16th of May 2016, where he will be  attending the SADC Ministerial Workshop that will be dealing with issues  of food security and poverty eradication in the region.

The Ministerial Workshop will be focusing on responding to the problems of poverty, hunger and malnutrition in the SADC region. Another important aspect of the Workshop will focus on the long and short term strategic actions that can be utilised in order to promote food and nutritional security for all.

SADC’s collective efforts and partnerships are important in realising the Sustainable Development Goals, there has to be continuous engagements to tackle the issues around poverty, and regional food insecurity.

The workshop obligations are to:

  • Create awareness of the Regional Agricultural Policy (RAP), SADC Regional Poverty Reduction Framework (RPRF), The Food and Nutritional Security Strategy.
  • Strengthen partnerships in agriculture, food and nutrition security and poverty related activities
  • Facilitate dialogue among key stakeholders to engage on key issues that lead to sustainable regional food security and the eradication of poverty.
  • And identify the issues that hamper the progression and attainment of food security and poverty eradication.

The Ministerial Workshop will be taking place in Gaborone, Botswana, under the Chairmanship of the President of Botswana, His Excellency, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, to be held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) on the 16th May 2016.
