The Minister of Water and Sanitation (DWS) Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane will lead the Clear Rivers Campaign activities by clearing the Jukskei River in Alexandra on 18 July 2016. The Minister will be joined by community members, the private sector and civil society organisations in this venture. This campaign is closely associated with the volunteer activities that are linked with Mandela Month.
The campaign is informed by the need for water security, particularly in the face of global climate change and is a clarion call for a national and unified approach to protect our freshwater ecosystems that includes rivers, wetlands and broader catchments.
