Minister Dipuo Peters condemns killing of North Coast Courier bus driver

The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, condemns the killing of the North Coast Courier bus driver who was travelling on Watson Highway at Tongaat in KwaZulu-Natal province. The driver was reportedly shot by an unidentified male, who then fled the scene.

The catastrophe took place, yesterday, Friday, 1 April 2016. The driver lost control of the bus, carrying about 20 passengers, before it went down a small embankment. The Advanced Life Support paramedic declared the driver dead at the scene due to his extensive injuries.

Multiple passengers were transported to hospital for shock and minor scrapes and bruises. Minister Peters will enlist the services of the Road Accident Fund (RAF) and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to give the family of the deceased and the injured the necessary support and comfort. Whilst investigations are ongoing, Minister Peters calls upon all law enforcement officers to swiftly arrest the perpetrators of this cruel act.

Furthermore, Minister Peters calls upon all South Africans who might have information which might lead to the arrest of these assassins to report to the nearest Police Station. Similarly, the bus companies must try all in their power to offer protection to the drivers.

Minister Peters sends her heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased bus driver and wishes the passengers admitted to hospital a speedy recovery.
