Minister Nxesi condemns the ransomware attack at the Public Service Bargaining Councils

The Acting Minister for Public Service and Administration has condemned the ransomware attack at the Public Service Bargaining Councils.

The Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC), General Public Service Sector Bargaining Council (GPSSBC) and the Safety and Security Sector Bargaining Council (SSSBC) experienced a cyber-attack on our information communication technology (ICT) systems over the period 24th – 28th February 2023.

The joint Executive Committees of the Councils in a special meeting on the 28th February 2023 agreed to invoke a force majeure (supervening impossibility) on dispute resolution processes from the 1st March 2023 to 31st March 2023. During this period, the Councils will focus efforts on recovering and restoring operations where after a further assessment will be done. The force majeure is only applicable to dispute resolution functions and collective bargaining processes will continue as per normal business.

The Minister said this is an unfortunate incident and that he is confident the Councils will recover from this with the least implication to the administrative functioning of the Council and restoring of our historical institutional records in full.
