Minister Thulas Nxesi celebrates Mandela Day in Port Elizabeth, 18 Jul

Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa embarks on the Nelson Mandela Day (18 July 2017) Campaign

"Action Against Poverty”

Every year on 18 July South Africans together with the global community honour our late former president and international icon Nelson Mandela in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The overarching objective of Nelson Mandela International Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.

The Nelson Mandela International Day campaign asks that individuals, groups and corporates pledge 67 minutes of their time on 18 July, and every day thereafter, to give back.  It offers South Africans and the world an occasion to honour the ethos of the late former President Mandela.

The Nelson Mandela Campaign this year focuses on fighting poverty under the theme: #ActionAgainstPoverty.

This Year, Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Min TW Nxesi in partnership with Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation Arts and Culture and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, will be celebrating this year's Nelson Mandela Day campaign by embarking on an clean-up campaign and refurbishment within the Kuyga Mega Park in Ward 40 of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
