The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Ms Susan Shabangu congratulates Caster Semenya for winning the 800 meter qualifying heat at the 2016 Rio Olympics this afternoon. The fact that she has qualified for the finals in the face of great adversity, is a clear demonstration of her resilience and strength of character. This paves a way for her to participate in the finals on Saturday.
The Minister wishes Semenya well ahead of the Saturday finals.
“On behalf of Government and all the people of South Africa, we call on Semenya to remain strong knowing that South African and many other countries are behind her. We will always be proud of her”, Minister Shabangu said.
Minister Shabangu encourages all those who are still going to participate to do their best for South Africa.
