Minister Siyabonga Cwele launches free Wi Fi hotspots at Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, 19 Feb

The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services will launch free Wi Fi hotspots at the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.

The rollout is part of the commitment the municipality made after Minister Cwele’s visit to the district in July 2015. The Wi Fi hotspots are deployed mostly in the underserved areas such as townships and settlements. The Wi Fi hotspots will provide internet access to the following:

  • Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality population
  • 225 Schools
  • Taxi ranks
  • Spaza Shops
  • Internet Cafes
  • SMMEs
  • Government Departments
  • Community Health Clinics
  • Traffic Offices
  • Libraries
  • Disaster Management Centres

The launch of the Wi Fi hotspots is part of the plan to rollout broadband or fast, reliable and secure internet to all citizens. It is one of the ways in which government is implementing the broadband policy known as South Africa Connect.
