Minister Susan Shabangu attends dialogue between pre-1994 Bizzah Makhate and 2016 Bizzah Makhate, 29 Jul

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Ms Susan Shabangu, MP, will attend dialogue between pre-1994 Bizzah Makhate and 2016 Bizzah Makhate females under the theme “shaping the future of South Africa”

Bizza Makhate Correctional Services formely Kroonstad prison was renamed after Sefularo Wilfred Makhate was a UDF activist and a founder of Release Mandela Campaign as well as organiser of COSAS in Kroonstad, Free State province. He was at the forefront of mass mobilisation in Kroonstad and surrounding areas.

During apartheid regime, female political prisoners used to be incarcerated at Bizza Makhate Correctional Centre while male political prisoners were incarcerated on Robbin Island. Some of the political prisoners that served time at Bizza Makhate include Mme Dorothy Nyembe, Dorothy Alexander, Dulcie September, Amina Disai, Nomvo Booi, Winnie Mandela, Thandi Modise, Sibongile Mkhabela to name but a few.
