Minister Senzeni Zokwana promotes household food security in honour of Mandela Day, 21 Jul

With the whole of July being commemorated as Mandela Month, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal  Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, UThungulu District Municipality and Mthonjaneni Local Municipality will visit  with the communities of Melmoth to encourage them to take part in productive agricultural activities. Twenty-seven vulnerable families have been identified to receive gardening tools, compost, seed packs and food hampers, as a tribute to the 27 years Madiba spent in prison.

Minister Zokwana will speak to the community about food security in order to promote agriculture as a sustainable way of making a living. He will also pay a courtesy visit to identified senior citizens’ households to hand out blankets.

The 18th of July was adopted as Nelson Mandela Day by the United Nations as an indication of the stalwart’s values and to honour his legacy through acts of kindness. This year’s celebration will be held under the theme “Clean-Up South Africa, Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day”.

Media is invited to attend and transport will be made available on request.
