Tomorrow, Thursday 12 May 2016, Minister Debbie Schäfer will be overseeing a search and seizure operation at a Cape Town School.
Since the beginning of the year, there has been a flare up of gang violence in the Province, and although the majority of incidents have taken place off the school premises, we are still concerned that weapons and illegal substances are being carried onto school premises.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) in conjunction with the South African Police Service conduct random search and seizure operations as a security measure as well as a means to deter learners from bringing weapons and illegal substances onto the school premises.
Tomorrow, Minister Schäfer will oversee the search as a Cape Town school. Please note that the search is highly confidential as we do not want to alert the school community.
If you wish to join the operation tomorrow, please email or text Jessica Shelver, who will inform you of the school by 9am tomorrow morning.
