Minister Rob Davies will be launching the eighth annual iteration of the Industrial Policy Action Plan - IPAP2016/17-2018/19.
Date: Monday, 9 May 2016
Time: 11:30 for 12:00
Venue: Guestro Naledi Inhlanganiso Group Foundry (NI-Forge),
16 Lincoln Rd, Benoni
This year - in a break from past practice - IPAP 2016 will be launched on the premises of a thriving, 100% black owned casting and machining foundry.
The Guestro Group produces castings for the rail, energy and mining markets and is in the process of constructing a world class steel forge wheel manufacturing plant - the first of its kind in the country and in Africa. It will, amongst its other ventures, be supplying 34-inch wagon wheels to Transnet’s 1,064 locomotive project.
Launching IPAP 2016 at NI-Forge emphasises the importance government attaches to developing close cooperation with cutting-edge local industrial companies involved not just in infrastructure development, transport and logistics, but across the widest range of technologically sophisticated, export-ready and labour-intensive sectors of the SA economy as a totality.
At the launch, Minister Davies will, amongst other things:
- Outline the central achievements of IPAP 2015;
- Chart the key strategic directions to be followed over the coming 2-4 years to achieve an ever higher-impact IPAP, with a strong emphasis on exports;
- Announce two important new initiatives to be implemented from 2016 which are the development of a post-APDP Automotive Industry Master Plan; and the launch of a comprehensive medium term Programme for Gas-based Industrialisation in South Africa.
