Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato celebrates women, the ‘Voice of Courage’ in our communities
Tonight, Wednesday 31 August 2016, Western Cape MEC of Community Safety, Dan Plato, is hosting a special Women’s Safety Outreach in celebration of the women in the Western Cape and their valued contribution to our communities.
As Women’s Month draws to an end today, MEC Plato continues to honour, celebrate and empower women around the theme “Women speak Out – Be the Voice of Courage”.
The Department of Community Safety’s Women’s Month celebrations culminate in a final regional gala event tonight in Athlone, to:
- Honour the women in our communities;
- Create awareness on safety issues affecting women in their communities;
- Provide a platform for women to share and motivate one another through personal testimonies, motivational and informational talks, showcasing the work done by the department and our safety partners.
Women have historically help build resilient communities and tonight’s event at the Athlone Civic Centre, will see community members, especially women, of Athlone, Kewtown, Bokmakierie, Heideveld, Manenberg, Wesbank, Mitchells Plain, Hanover Park, Pelican Park, Bridgetown, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Delft, Lavender Hill, Steenberg, Cafda and Silvertown be honoured, entertained and celebrated as pillars in their respective communities of courage, hope, possibility and strength.
The gala events sees the Department of Community Safety partnering with the local South African Police Service (SAPS), the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs), Law Enforcement, Religious Leaders, local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) as well as the provincial Departments of Social Development, Education and Sports, Arts and Culture.
There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
Guest Speaker, Western Cape MEC of Finance, Dr Ivan Meyer to speak at 19h30, keynote address by MEC Dan Plato at 19:45.
