The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor will host an Imbizo in Reitz in the Free State, as part of government's Imbizo focus week from 7 to 12 April. The Imbizo will take place at the local Petsana Stadium on 11 April.

Minister Pandor will be accompanied by the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, the Premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule, the Executive Mayor of Thabo Mofutsanyane District Municipality, Cllr Malefu Vilakazi, and the Mayor of Nkentoane Local Municipality, Cllr Matsukulu Molapisi.

Approximately 5 000 people are expected to attend the event, including 1 500 grade 11 and 12 learners from the neighbouring schools who will experience for themselves science and technology exhibitions mounted by various DST entities.

Also supporting this initiative will be the Departments of Basic Education, Higher Education and Training, Social Development, and Home Affairs who will provide onsite assistance to members of the public.

The Imbizo will start with a visit to Ikaheng Zakheni Secondary School in Petrus Steyn, 40km outside Reitz on Friday, 10 April. Accompanied by Premier Magashule, the Minister will visit the school to assess science learning needs there.

The school has a high number of learners doing science and maths. Though there is adequate infrastructure for a laboratory – there isn’t enough material to do science experiments.
