Minister Naledi Pandor publishes National Skills Development Plan

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor has published the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP), aimed at assisting the South African Government to contribute towards the economic growth, creation of employment and social development.

Published in the Government Gazette (Vol 645, no 42290) of yesterday, 07 March, in line with Section 9 (4) of the Skills Development Act, No 97 of 1998 as amended, the Plan responds to the goals of the National
Development Plan and the White Paper for Post-School Education and Training.

The NDP calls for an improvement in the quality of education and training to enhance the capabilities of  South Africans so that they are active participants in developing the potential of our country.

In the Plan’s foreword, Minister Pandor writes, the vision is that by growing the economy faster, more people will be drown in and create work, which will, in turn, raise the standard of living for all, especially the poor.

The NSDP has been informed by consultation and engagement with stakeholders, including the National Skills Authority (NSA), the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC), Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), Quality Councils and the public.

The NSDP publication can be accessed on the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) website or intranet (www.dhet.gov.za) and Government Printing Works website (www.gpw.gov.za).
