The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane, will tomorrow, 02 March 2016, visit the Sekhukhune District of Limpopo province on a working visit focusing on drought-relief measures and inter-governmental relations.
The Sekhukhune District and Limpopo province as whole, are affected by the current drought and as such government has been engaged in various efforts and implementing a number of interventions aimed at mitigating the effects of the current drought.
The Minister will hand-over 80, 000 litre mobile reservoirs to the people of the province to be placed in drought affected areas to augment water supply and ensure availability for communities.
Inter-governmental relations have been central in the coordination of drought relief efforts and partnerships with affected communities and stakeholders. To strengthen this work, the Minister will also be meeting with provincial and local government leaders in Limpopo to engage on the status of the current drought and efforts in place to assist communities access water and survive the drought period.
