Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma convenes a Special MINMEC on COVID-19

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Friday, 20 March 2020 convene a meeting with Members of Provincial Executive Councils Meeting (MinMEC).
This meeting is part of the ongoing stakeholders engagement following the declaration of the state of national disaster by the President. The MinMec meeting follows the engagements the Minister held with the National House of Traditional Leaders and CRL Commission.

The meeting is intended to look at how the recently launched District Development Model can be steered towards enhancing the country’s response to the corona virus pandemic. This is done in context of the Minister of CoGTA  having, in terms of section 3 of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002), and after consulting the responsible Cabinet members, gazetted regulations to deal with the spread of Corona Virus. The regulations will guide everyone in this period of declared disaster.

Matters for consideration and discussion will therefore include the following:

  • Framework for Local Government Programme of Action: Response to COVID-19 Epidemic.
  • Status of Disaster Management Centres Nationally including COGTA’s involvement in Programmes responding to COVID-19 Epidemic under existing Joint Structures.
  • Reports by Provinces on the State of Readiness, existing Contingency Arrangements and Budgets to fight the COVID-19 Epidemic.
