Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula attends Armistice Day and participates in Paris Peace Forum, 11 to 13 Nov

Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will represent South Africa on behalf of President Cyril Ramaphosa at the centenary commemoration of Armistice Day to be held in Paris, France.

Armistice Day commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918 - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. This effectively ended World War 1 on the Western Front.

This year’s Armistice Day coincides with Remembrance Sunday for its centenary, the latter always held on the second Sunday in November, regardless of the date. Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in honor of those who died in the two World Wars.

Minister Mapisa-Nqakula will also participate in the first Paris Peace Forum to be held from 11 to 13 November 2018.

The South African delegation as led by Minister Mapisa-Nqakula is scheduled to be back in the country on Tuesday, 13 November 2018.
