Minister Lynne Brown signs Memorandum of Understanding with Free State Premier on Eskom Municipal debt and key projects, 24 May

The Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown and the Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tomorrow 24 May 2016 to improve  working relationship between State Owned Companies (SOC) and the province and provincial entities to fast track key SOC investments projects and unlock any blockages.

The Minister and Premier will also find solutions to settle the debt owed by Free State municipalities.

The MoU is signed as part of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) Provincial Engagement programme to meet with Provincial Governments across the country to negotiate a payment arragement for indebted municipalities to settle their Eskom accounts.

The MoU also provides for State-Owned Companies (SOCs) in the DPE portfolio such as Eskom, Transnet, Denel and SA Express to collaborate with the province in projects that are implemented in the Free State.

This includes collaboration in revitalising the Free State mining towns and branch lines, the disposal of SOC non-core assets and unused land to Free State Government, promoting provincial tourism routes through the SA Express and SOCs supporting Economic Development Zones.

Minister Brown and Premier Magashule will sign the MoU and brief the media as follows:
