Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize, will this morning, Monday 8 May 2017, at 09H30, hand-over the new Smart ID Card to National Assembly Speaker Honourable Baleka Mbete, at the Home Affairs Harrison Office in Johannesburg.
This is part of the drive to encourage SA citizens to apply for, and collect their Smart ID Cards. The department is set on the goal of replacing within a 5 year period around 38 million old green-barcoded ID books with new Smart ID cards.
To date over 6 million Smart ID Cards have been issued.
