Minister Gugile Nkwinti officiates at Clanwilliam Dam Wall Construction sites sod-turning ceremony, 8 Oct

The raising of the Clanwilliam Dam wall to commence

The Minister of Water and Sanitation Mr Gugile Nkwinti will on the 08th of October turn the sod at the Clanwilliam Dam Wall Construction site. The ceremony will give the construction team a go-ahead to commence with the raising of the wall.

Minster Nkwinti earlier this year announced that the project will commence within five months of his announcement, and October is the fifth month. The dam was built in 1935 and in 1969 it was raised by 6 metres to its current level to provide for an increasing irrigation demand. The wall will be raised by 13 metres to further ensure water security. The local municipalities and all related activities will receive much enhanced security of water supply through this activity coming to fruition.

The event will be in two phases:

The Minister will officially turn the sod at the construction site at 11H00

Phase Two: Minister will address the community at Sederberg Primary School at 12h00.
