Minister of Police, Mr Mbalula to deliver keynote address at SAPS first youth conference & wreath laying ceremony at the Hector Pieterson memorial
The South African Police Service (SAPS) led by the Minister of Police Mr Fikile Mbalula will host its first Youth Conference under the theme “Empowered Youth, Brighter Future” as part of the Youth Month commemoration on Thursday, 29 June 2017.
The Minister will also use this opportunity to lead a SAPS visit and wreath laying ceremony at the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
“The month of June is a reminder of our past and renewal of our commitment to protect the rights of all our people. The youth of 1976 stood up against an unjust system and the apartheid police responded with untold brutality. This will be an opportunity to come together to commit that never shall such brutality happen in the new South Africa,” Minister Mbalula said.
The Youth Conference will be attended by approximately 1500 employees of the SAPS under the age of 35 and aims to encourage the youth to observe South African constitutional values and motivate participants as future leaders of the SAPS. This includes creating a platform for mutual engagement on issues affecting the image of the SAPS and strategic matters.
The Minister of Police, the Honourable Mr. FA Mbalula, will deliver the keynote address at the conference and soon after depart to Soweto for the wreath laying at the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
