Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula interacts with Mdantsane Community during Imbizo Week, 8 to 10 Apr

Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Hon. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula – MP, to conduct follow-up visit in Mdantsane, East London as part of Government’s Imbizo Focus Week and Parliament constituency oversight duties

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Hon. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula – MP, will be interacting with the community of Mdantsane in East London from the 8 -10 April, 2016 as part of Government’s Imbizo Focus Week.

The visit by Minister Mapisa-Nqakula is a follow-up to a similar interaction which took place in March 2015, in the aftermath of the xenophobic violence that flared up in parts of South Africa including Mdantsane.

During that interaction the community of Mdantsane, comprising of various stakeholders raised various issues for urgent attention and intervention by the Minister, which included the following:

  1. Local Business Community Concerns
  2. Sporting Amenities
  3. Causes of Xenophobic Violence
  4. Funding for Development Projects
  5. Condition of Schools in Mdantsane
  6. Access to Basic Services
  7. Youth Unemployment
  8. Agriculture
  9. Struggle/Military Veterans Challenges

Minister Mapisa-Nqakula will also be engaging with local faith-based organisations as well as traditional healers to get an in-depth understanding of the issues and challenges they are seized with.

In coming face to face with the community of Mdantsane, the Minister will be supported by the Buffalo City local government, the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO), Traditional Leaders, Buffalo City Moral Regeneration Committee, Eastern Cape Council of Churches, Greater Mdantsane Business Forum as key stakeholders and role players in community–government relations.  

As a Member of Parliament (MP), Minister Mapisa-Nqakula is also enjoined to conduct service delivery oversight visits to her designated constituency, which is also the community of Mdantsane.
