Minister Bathabile Dlamini addresses Early Childhood Development Awards, 4 May

The Minister for Social Development will give a key note address at the 2016 South African Early Childhood Development Awards to be hosted in Cape Town on May 4, 2016.

Early childhood development (ECD) has been identified as an APEX priority and is a central component within government’s twelve Outcomes.  It is one of the areas reflected under Outcome 1: Improved Quality of Basic Education aimed at addressing challenges that make it impossible for children to develop in all aspects of life.  Cabinet recently approved the ECD Policy which recognises ECD as a public good.

The Awards aim to recognise excellence in the ECD sector, recognise innovations in ECD training methods and practice, recognise best practice, and encourage the pursuit of excellence in the sector of ECD.

Championed by the National Development Agency – an agency of the Department of Social Development, the Awards take place on an annual basis and recognise outstanding participation in ECD in the following categories:

  • Best ECD Centre of the Year;
  • Best ECD Practitioner of the Year;
  • Best ECD Trainer of the Year;
  • Best Publication of the Year;
  • Best ECD Non Centre Based ECD of the Year; and
  • Best ECD Disability Programme of the Year.
