The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa, will deliver a speech at the tribute concert for Professor Joseph Shabalala for his work in putting Isicathamiya music on the international map on Thursday 23 June 2016 at the Playhouse theatre in Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
“In a global reality which tends to focus on trends and short-term goals, we congratulate our living artistic legend, Joseph Shabalala, and his eminent group of artists, for being able to sustain themselves and share the unique sounds of South Africa with the international world over decades," said Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
The tribute concert will honour Professor Joseph Shabalala for his historic work in forming the South African iconic music group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, whose journey for the past 56 years has serenaded people across the world and whose music with its tip toe and harmony sounds continues to promote South Africa’s heritage and culture.
