Chairperson Thandi Modise meets Mpondomise Royal Council in Mthatha, 17 Oct

The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Ms Thandi Modise, will on Monday, 17 October 2016, meet with the Mpondomise Royal Council in Mthatha. The meeting serves as a precursor to the NCOP programme, Taking Parliament to The People, which will be held in the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Eastern Cape, from 18 to 21 October 2016.

Traditional leadership is a key stakeholder of the NCOP and has a vital role to play within communities, thus, the meeting aims to strengthen relations between the two role players. The meeting will also discussion, among others, the Constitution and the institution of traditional leadership, the role Parliament has played over the years in supporting and promoting the institution of traditional leadership.

“The Communal Land Tenure Bill will also form part of our discussion and we hope Hon. Modise will shed some light on its status to the Royal Council so we better understand its implications for our people,” said Mr Peter Madasa, an elder in the Council.
