Transport on court case of Minister Fikile Mbalula's appointment of PRASA Administrator

Media Statement on #Unitebehind and Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula on PRASA Administrator

The #UNITEBEHIND brought an urgent court application to review and set aside the Minister’s decision to appoint an Administrator of PRASA and failure to appoint a Board of Control.

The Minister had to and within a short period of time, file the answering affidavit; subsequent to filing an answering affidavit, which clearly stated the process and the law relied upon in appointing Mr. Bongisizwe Mpondo at PRASA, the #UNITEBEHIND requested a postponement for two weeks. The Minister, still contends that he acted within the law in appointing Mr. Mpondo.

The matter was in court today and the parties have agreed to a postponement and the matter is set down for April 21, 2020.

The Minister was amenable to a postponement and still contends that this matter could be discussed between the parties without involving courts, as both parties are driven by ensuring that there is efficacy at PRASA and same is in the best interest of rail commuters.

The Minister believes both himself as the shareholder representative and #UNITEBEHIND are propelled into action by public interest.
