Media invited to the State of the Province Address (SOPA) and Media Lockup

The Eastern Cape Premier Mr. Phumulo Masualle will on Friday 19 February 2016 deliver a State of the Province Address (SOPA) to the people of the province. The Premier’s address will cover  successes achieved and challenges met in the current Financial Year and outline Provincial Government’s Programme of Action on how to boost Provincial economy and improve the delivery of basic services to the people in the 2016/17 Financial Year.

These will include: creation of decent work, improvement in health, education, infrastructure development, rural development; and the intensification of the fight against crime and corruption.

SOPA provides the Legislature with a critical oversight tool and an opportunity to enhance its oversight responsibility, to identify key aspects of this oversight for the coming year and to plan how to ensure the facilitation of public involvement in legislative processes. The Honourable Speaker of the Legislature, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, will preside over this Sitting.

Leaders in business, labour, and inter-faith organisations; Traditional Leaders, Mayors and key stakeholders of government are among those who have been invited to attend the glamorous occasion. The proceedings will also be beamed on big screens at Public Viewing Areas in all the six (6) District Municipalities and two (2) Metropolitan Municipalities in the Province.
