Media briefing on the Terms of Reference for the Commission of Inquiry into Marshalltown fire
Premier Panyaza Lesufi will on Wednesday, 13 September 2023, announce the terms of reference for the Commission of Inquiry into the Marshalltown fire that left 77 people dead and many injured and homeless.
The Commission of Inquiry, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Judge, Justice Sisi Khampepe, was established early this month to investigate the pervasiveness of hijacked buildings in Johannesburg and the cause of the deadly fire, including identifying who must shoulder total responsibility/liability for the tragedy.
The Premier will announce the comprehensive Terms of Reference and Regulations of the Commission of Inquiry that have been gazetted, including the set timeframes.
