Eastern Cape hosts Safer Schools Awareness campaign, 11 Apr

The Ministry of Transport, Safety and Liaison in partnership with the Department of Education, will as part of heightening the “Safer Schools Awareness Campaign” afford the learners an opportunity to debate on issues of road safety and community safety in general, so as to create greater awareness amongst their peers, as well as in the community at large.

The MEC`s Safer Schools Programme will focus on schools within the three identified areas, namely: Bethelsdop, Galvandale and Motherwell, covering grades from 9 to 11. At the end of it all, the winners and the participants will be awarded with trophies and medals, so as to motivate them to generate new ideas, and to help the Ministry to find concrete solutions to the challenges encircling safety at schools and in general.

This programme in particular, will be graced by the presence of the Honourable MEC Weziwe Tikana of the Ministry of Transport, Safety and Liaison who will further encourage the use of dialogue and critical debate as a tool through which to reduce road fatalities and violence in our communities. Alongside her, will be the Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.

All members of the media fraternity are invited to be part of this massive programme in order to get first-hand information from the MEC and the Mayor.
