GPL Speaker convenes session of the Gauteng Speakers Forum (GSF)
Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe, will convene the Gauteng Speakers Forum (GSF) on Friday, 22 November 2019, to discuss various matters that relate to the theme, ‘Enhancing Public Confidence in the Governance and Leadership of the Legislature’.
The GSF is comprised of all speakers of municipalities in Gauteng, including other key stakeholders such as SALGA (the South African Local Government Association) and the (Cogta) Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs together with the Legislature’s Cogta Portfolio Committee. It was established to bridge the gap between the people of Gauteng and government in order to attend to Citizens’ needs and further entrench the public participation mandate of GPL.
Chaired by Deputy Speaker of GPL, Hon. Vuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, the session will take place as follows:

The meeting will discuss some of the key reports that affect the work of Municipalities and the Legislative Sector at large, including:
- Status of Implementation of Council Committee Oversight System in District Municipalities (West Rand & Sedibeng Districts).
- The reconfiguration of the district government and impact on legislative Sector.
- Support on Strengthening Oversight Reporting & Implementation of Separation of Powers in District Municipalities.
- Enhancing Legislative Oversight on Implementation of the National Development Plan by Gauteng Executive Authorities.
- 2019/2020 Programme of Ntirisano and collaboration with Municipalities.
- Progress Report on Updating Voters’ Roll.
- Progress Report on Identity Document (ID) Collection in Gauteng.
- Status report on the current review of municipal legislation.
- Proposed Integrity Bill for the Legislative Sector.
- African Climate Reality Project (Inclusive and Meaningful Public Participation on Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change).
