MEC Nomafrench Mbombo celebrates National Integrated School Health Programme, 11 Feb

Western Cape Government in partnership with Liberty Medical Scheme and The Health Foundation improving access to healthcare      

In encouraging and cultivating partnerships, the Western Cape Government is delighted to announce that the integrated School Health Wellness Mobile initiative received support from Liberty Medical Scheme to help reduce barriers to healthcare. An event celebrating the partnership will be attended by the Western Cape Minister of Health, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, the Western Cape Minister of Education, Debbie Schäfer, Liberty Medical Scheme and The Health Foundation.

Five mobiles, currently operating in the Western Cape, are aligned with the National Integrated School Health Programme and focus on early detection of health problems.  The initiative between the Department of Health and Education is contributing to the Western Cape Government’s strategic objectives of increasing Wellness by improving the health of learners.

Liberty’s partnership with the WCG through The Health Foundation, aim to optimise and expand the current service rendered on the mobiles. Since inception the mobiles have visited 358 schools and rendered healthcare services to 37 750 learners of which 4 067 received spectacles and 10 891 received dental care.
