MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane applauds R1.5 million drug bust

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi–Malobane, congratulates members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the arrest of two foreign nationals on Monday in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni for manufacturing and dealing in drugs.

The alleged drug suspects, aged 28 and 39, were nabbed during a crime intelligence operation led by the SAPS and Ekurhuleni metro police rapid response units. The duo, from Ghana and Nigeria, had allegedly been on the police radar for some time and on Monday the team pounced on them while allegedly busy preparing drugs inside a well-secured house.

The arrest took place in the backdrop of the launch of a social movement against drugs and substance abuse by the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura in May 2016 and the MEC’s roundtable discussion on integrity management with law enforcement agencies leadership last week.

“I commend the law enforcement officers who worked around the clock to make a breakthrough in dismantling this syndicate. This demonstrates our unwavering war against the supply of drugs and ensuring that our province is safe and drug free. We need more officers of this caliber in our society. I urge our community members to work hand in hand with them to root out this heinous crime that is destroying the lives of our youth,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
