Premier Supra Mahumapelo on death of MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu

Premier SOR Mahumapelo has described the demise of the North West Social Development MEC as a huge loss to the Executive Council of the province, her political home the ANC and to the people of Bokone Bophirima.

MEC Nkewu was travelling from Mahikeng to Taung to join the ANC Moses Kotane Provincial Chairperson and the  ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in an election campaign when her vehicle hit a cyclist on the N18 road near Vryburg and subsequently rolled. The vehicle allegedly caught fire after the accident.

The two VIP protectors were admitted at the Joe Morolong Hospital in Vryburg and one has been discharged while the other remains in a stable condition.

Mahumapelo was forced to abandon the election campaign and rushed to the accident scene. He says what happened at the scene is beyond comprehension.

Nkewu (44), who hails from Molelema village in Taung, was the ANC Provincial Treasurer and Social Development MEC in the North West Province.

Further details will be released in due course.
