MEC Desbo Mohono on 2016 academic year in Bojanala District

North West MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono together with other members of the Provincial Legislature recently embarked on a program led by the national assembly to visit schools during their first two days of schools reopening for the 2016 academic year.

MEC Mohono said that the purpose of this schools visit programme was to assess the state of readiness for the 2016 academic year by engaging with schools management, students and school governing body and assess proper functionality and challenges faced by these institutions.

The first school to visit was Naauwport High School in Rustenburg where she addressed learners and educators and even shared her experiences as former educator

“Let me first congratulate the Naawupoort High School 2015 Matriculants, they really did us proud. It brings so much joy to my heart to see pupils especially from the Bojanala district doing exceptionally well in their studies. I am also pleased to see the cleanliness of your school, I am a student myself at wits doing my Masters and I must say I can’t wait to see my results. The trick to doing well in your studies is listening to your educators and attending classes regularly”, she said.

Mohono added that a platform such as this one presents an opportunity of a broader scale engagement between political heads as the legislators and the management of our schools.

“We are here to offer support as leaders in government, we all know that education is one of government’s priority, we need to know that there is adequate support to these schools and also that our district offices are receiving the necessary support in order to realize our set goals in education”, she said

Moreover she said that educators should continue doing what they are doing best and the department of basic education should also continue supporting them.

“We have incredible capable educators who produce good students. We should be proud of our teachers, we should also be proud of the support the department of basic education is giving these schools here in Bojanala, even though there are challenges, but this district has always done very well in delivering the best in terms of education, educators and the educated”, Mohono added.

MEC Mohono went on to visit other schools around the Rustenburg area. She visited Vastrap Primary School in the CBD and the following day she preceded to two other schools namely Charora Secondary School and Bonwakgogo Primary School in her home village of Chaneng where she was joined by the Provincial Deputy Speaker Hon Jane Manganye.
