MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi meet with her new administration

The “new dawn” set in this week when the newly-appointed MEC of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Kenetswe Mosenogi, hit the ground running when she took the time to meet with her new departmental team at Mmabatho Civic Centre.

MEC Mosenogi met with senior managers and staff members of her new portfolio for a meet and greet session, following the first interaction with departmental branch heads. This meeting sought to pave a roadmap into the dawning of her administration term.

MEC Mosenogi called for robust teamwork that delivers to its commitment to ensuring economically transformation for the people of the North West Province.

Honourable Kenetswe served as a Councillor and Member of Mayoral Committee responsible for Economic Development and Tourism. She also served in various portfolios inclusive of Deputy Chairperson of the North West Development Corporation Board and acquitted herself in her fiduciary duties in the former Invest North West Board.

In her address, MEC relayed that part her priority is to achieve the mandate of the department that is tributary to improving the economy of the province. She also committed to striving for governance that would be balanced to service delivery and clean audits.

“The role of the department is significant to the inclusive economic growth of the province. Your skill and role are also important in taking this province forward and you should never undermine yourselves.”

MEC highlighted that during her recent meeting with departmental Management; they have noted some of the staff’s concern and are working hard at improving the working conditions and making sure that they are conducive for all.

“I am aware of other work-related challenges that you all have in the departments, but let me assure you that “All is not lost” We will deal with your challenges with Management.  I believe in resolving issues in the workplace as disgruntled staff members are not productive,”

MEC Mosenogi reminded staff members that all of us receive services from the government as we form part of community. As we are equally public service instigators, we should ensure that we do not complain but do our best in delivering services to the people because we are the government ourselves.  She also challenged staff members to take pride in their respective responsibilities and serve with dignity.

She urged senior managers to play their role of leading the department in the process of reconfiguration and make sure the department merges with the new branches of Environment and Tourism to work together towards achieving a common goal. 

MEC further mentioned that the department will during her term of office focus on the economic development strategy of the province. She pointed out that she has already appointed a team that will be led by the head of the department to oversee that the team delivers as expected.

Besides her political stance, MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi has obtained a Master Degree in Business Administration with North-West University Business School in Potchefstroom. She further holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Witwatersrand University.

As part of her work experience, MEC Mosenogi has worked as a Director Scientific Support Services in the Department of Sport and Recreation and Parliamentary Liaison Officer in the Ministry of Sport and Recreation. She previously worked for the University of South Africa (UNISA) as an Assistant Student Administrator. 

In addition, Mr Lufuno Tshikovhi; Head of Department, committed on behalf of departmental management and staff to give the new MEC all the necessary support in her quest transforming the economy through tourism, SMME support, and society towards environmental sustainability.
