MEC Ismail Vadi will open the first phase of the rehabilitated Provincial Road P158-2 (N14) project between Diepsloot and Krugersdorp. The repairs to the 20km, four lane dual carriage-way were undertaken in nineteen months at a cost of R300 million.
The road carries high volumes of traffic during peak times. It has multiple interchanges, bridge structures and major culverts. It connects Centurion in Tshwane and Krugersdorp whilst serving as an alternate route to important locations such as the Sandton CBD, Lanseria Airport and Diepsloot.
The objectives of the rehabilitation are to improve the structural and functional condition of the road by strengthening the pavement structure and providing a new asphalt overlay. Additionally, new concrete lined drains and subsoil drains will assist in preserving the pavement structure and whilst improving road safety.
The department’s commitment to providing training, skills development and empowering BBBEE contractors, will see the main contractor sub-contracting a percentage of the work to local SMMEs.
