In an effort to deliver integrated government services and ensure maximum community participation on development programs in the Eastern Cape, Human Settlements Ms Helen Sauls- August will launch a ward war room in Centane on Thursday, 24 November 2016.
A ward war room forms part of the integrated service delivery model currently being rolled out by the Provincial Government as Masiphathisane. A war room provides for a coordinated and integrated service delivery model of action to address the empowerment of Youth and Women, Social Ills of the communities and Community participating in Governance.
The war room is comprise of a ward councillor, sector departments and community representatives. MECs, District and Local Mayors assist and support Ward Councillor to establish a War Room – one per ward.
Sections of Eastern Cape communities feel left out in the development dialogue (resulting in service delivery protests, increasing inequalities, marginalisation) and Tackling HIV, poverty, and other social ills requires a multi-sectoral approach to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Eastern Cape.
With the province being ranked 2nd with high unemployment levels in the country, Stagnant population growth and a growing trend of outmigration; Large backlogs in basic services; A third of households in the EC experience hunger, the Provincial Government has embarked on a coordinated approach, the Integrated Service Delivery Model, to provide comprehensive, integrated and transversal services to communities through effective and efficient multi-sectoral partnerships.
The ward war room will be launched as follows:
