MEC Oupa Khoabane hosts farmer's Imbizo in Matwabeng Township, 21 Apr

The Free State MEC for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Oupa Khoabane will host a farmer's Imbizo with an objective to outline the Commonage Development Policy. 

The policy seeks to guide and empower subsistence farmers on requirements and proper management of commonages. 

Commonages are found in Municipalities across the province municipal land across, where commonage users are granted grazing rights for agricultural purposes.  Farmers make use of the commonages to supplement income and to provide for household consumption.

Challenges in commonages can range from over grazing, poor infrastructure and lack of proper management. 

The Imbizo will allow farmers, local government and provincial government to share solutions with an objective of ensuring successful commonages.

MEC Khoabane will visit a Commonage in Senekal, where he will interact with farmers. He is also expected to handover feed to farmers for their livestock.

The Imbizo will take place as follows:
