MEC Pauline Williams commends Operation Tlhasela

MEC for Transport Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Pauline Williams commends Operation Tlhasela which aimed to roots out unlawfulness on the province’s roads

MEC for Transport Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Pauline Williams commends Operation Tlhasela that took to the Province’s roads to root out unlawful road users and enforce the law without favour.

The fruitful operation that was conducted in Pampierstad and Hartswater recently was a joint operation with the Provincial Traffic, SAPS and Municipal Traffic which was in conjunction with other operations continuously unfolding across the Province.

Operation Tlhasela focused on driver and vehicle fitness, and public transport without neglecting any unlawful acts during operations. It also addressed complaints from the taxi industry about unlawful taxi operators.  The operations, however, did not take sides as we enforced the law across the board and rooted out any unlawfulness on the roads.

A total of 37 summonses were issued varying from unlincenced vehicles, driving without an operating licence, overloading to vehicle fitness during the Operation. Traffic officials stopped and checked over 290 vehicles during the operations and the general behavior of road users was positive and welcomed the operations.

I would also like to thank road users for their continued cooperation with our traffic officials and the space to allow them to do their work and enforce the law accordingly. We are happy that communities see the value in our operations and continue to support our efforts.

Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility and we are glad road users are coming on board.

We request all our road users to continue to obey the rules of the roads, buckle up and stay visible on the roads.
